Teniqua Treetops

Tucked into 36 hectares of indigenous Knysna Forest on the Garden Route, this self-catering retreat perches above the Karatara Gorge near Knysna. It’s minutes from the Cape Floral Region Protected Areas and Garden Route National Park, and roughly 66 km from George Airport (72 km from Plettenberg Bay). Off the beaten track — the nearest town, shops and restaurants are about 20 minutes away.

Eight individually decorated suites sit on stilts 2–6 meters above the forest floor, each with a full kitchen, private balcony or patio and views of gorge or indigenous trees. Rooms feature separate sitting areas and deep soaking tubs, with daily housekeeping available. The property is quirky and adventurous — partly off the grid and ideal for nature lovers, birding fans and family-friendly stays.

Take a dip in the outdoor pool or wander the terrace and garden. On-site highlights include a licensed bar, petting zoo, art gallery, two forest trails and a river walk down to Karatara rock pools. There are picnic and barbecue areas, a library and table-tennis for lazy afternoons — wake up to bird-song and river murmur.
