Daintree Wilderness Lodge

Tucked into the ancient Daintree Rainforest in Diwan, this eco-certified rainforest lodge sits on boardwalks among Fan Palm gallery. It’s about 2 hours north of Cairns and 1 hour north of Port Douglas, minutes from the Daintree Discovery Centre, Daintree River, Thornton Beach, Marrdja Botanical Walk and Cape Tribulation.

Only seven hand-built cabins set on stilts ensure privacy and minimal impact on the forest; each cabin has a private balcony and skylight to bring the canopy in. Expect rustic-luxe touches like minibars, refrigerators, flat-screen TVs with DVD players, coffee/tea makers, designer toiletries and daily housekeeping. The lodge is advanced eco-accredited and largely solar-powered, welcomes guests aged 10+, and is a top spot for spotting wildlife such as southern cassowaries, striped possums, Boyd’s forest dragons, frogs and rainforest birds.
