How to connect Karta to your AI assistant

You already live in Claude, ChatGPT, or whatever shiny assistant your company bought. You’re not shipping microservices — you’re booking Bali, Barcelona, or a client’s honeymoon, and you’d rather not open seventeen hotel tabs.

Karta plugs into that chat. Ask in normal language. Get real stays with prices and a link that opens on karta.com — often with dates already filled in.

You: Canggu, New Year’s, two adults, somewhere that doesn’t feel like a call center.
Chat: A short shortlist → prices → Karta links → you finish the booking in the browser like a civilized person.

No developer ritual. No “clone the repo.” If you can add a connector in Claude settings, you’re already overqualified.

Who this is for

  • You — good at life admin and mildly dangerous with AI tools; automating your own vacation is a sport.
  • Travel agents / ops — same energy, more clients, less patience for tab chaos.
  • Not for people who want to configure Traefik. (They already know. They’re fine.)

What you get

  • Hotels that actually exist on Karta
  • Prices for your dates and guest count
  • Links you can open and book on the site
  • Search by place name (“Kata Beach”, “Canggu, Bali”, “Barcelona”)

The assistant finds and opens the door. You still pick the room and pay on Karta — which is how you wanted it anyway.

Which app should I use?

App For vacation? How you connect
Claude (claude.ai / Desktop) Yes — start here Buttons: Custom connector + URL. No files.
ChatGPT (Plus / Pro / work) Yes, a bit fussier Developer Mode → Apps & Connectors → paste URL
Codex (ChatGPT desktop / Codex app) If you already live there Settings → MCP servers → Add → Streamable HTTP + URL
Cursor / Gemini CLI / other apps Only if you already love them Often a config file or CLI — not the path for “just book Bali”

Recommendation: use Claude. Fastest “paste URL → ask for hotels” loop.

Production:

Dev (preview / try-before-prod):

https://dev.karta.com/api/mcp

After connecting, always open a new chat.

If you use Claude

Happy path — clicks, not code.

  1. Open claude.ai or Claude Desktop (same account).
  2. Customize → Connectors (or Settings → Connectors).
  3. + → Add custom connector.
  4. Name: Karta.
  5. URL: https://karta.com/api/mcp
  6. Leave OAuth / Advanced empty.
  7. Add.
  8. In the chat composer, open connectors (+ → Connectors) and make sure Karta is on.
  9. New chat → ask for hotels (examples below).

Claude reaches Karta from Anthropic’s cloud — public HTTPS, not “something on your laptop.”

Official help: Custom connectors (remote MCP).

Team / Enterprise: an Owner may add the connector once; then you hit Connect.

If you use ChatGPT

Remote MCP is real, but buried under “developer” wording. Paid plan usually required.

  1. Open ChatGPT → Settings.
  2. Apps & Connectors (sometimes just Connectors / Apps).
  3. Open Advanced and turn on Developer mode if you see it.
  4. Create / Add a connector (custom).
  5. Name: Karta.
  6. Connector URL: https://karta.com/api/mcp
  7. Authentication: None (unless Karta told you otherwise).
  8. Save. In a new chat, enable the connector in the tools / apps picker.
  9. Say explicitly: “Use Karta to search hotels…”

If your workspace is Business/Enterprise, an admin may need to allow custom connectors first.
If you only see a store and never a URL field — use Claude for hotel day.

If you use Codex

Codex (ChatGPT desktop / Codex CLI / IDE extension) can talk Streamable HTTP.

UI path (preferred if you see it):

  1. Open Settings → MCP servers.
  2. Add server.
  3. Name: Karta.
  4. Transport: Streamable HTTP (not STDIO).
  5. URL: https://karta.com/api/mcp
  6. Save → restart if it asks → new chat → ask for hotels on Karta.

If it only offers a config file / CLI: that’s a developer path — borrow Claude instead, or ask whoever owns the laptop.

OpenAI’s MCP notes for Codex live here: developers.openai.com/codex/mcp.

If you use Cursor

Cursor talks Streamable HTTP via mcp.json (global ~/.cursor/mcp.json, or project .cursor/mcp.json).

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "karta": {
      "url": "https://karta.com/api/mcp"
    },
    "karta-dev": {
      "url": "https://dev.karta.com/api/mcp"
    }
  }
}

Save → enable the server in Cursor MCP settings → new Agent chat → ask for hotels on Karta.

If you use something else (Gemini, …)

  • Gemini “for normal people” — consumer Gemini chat is not the easy custom-URL story; Gemini CLI / Enterprise are a different sport.
  • Anything else — look for Connectors / MCP / Custom URL, paste https://karta.com/api/mcp. Store-only with no URL field → use Claude.

What to say

Find a hotel in Barcelona for two adults in May 2027.
Show a few options with prices and Karta links.
Canggu, Bali for New Year’s —
check-in 2026-12-30, check-out 2027-01-03, two adults.
Prefer the link that already has these dates.
Phuket near Kata Beach, two adults and one child about 7,
10–17 May 2027. Shortlist with total price and booking links.

Works better if you say where, when, and who’s going.
If the place name is ambiguous, add the country. Your assistant is clever, not psychic.

What you’ll see

A short list — name, rough area, price for the stay, a Karta link.
Ask for more about a place (description, photos, amenities) without leaving the chat — same listing_page_url from search.
Open the link, check photos and rules, book when it feels right.

Honest limits

  • Hotels on Karta — not flights or cars (yet).
  • Search + links in chat; payment stays on the website.
  • Dates from today onward; check-out after check-in.
  • A shortlist, not the entire planet.
  • If the chat invents hotels without opening Karta, nudge it: “use Karta.”

Stuck?

New chat after connecting. Ask: “Can you search hotels on Karta?”
If it stares blankly — the connector didn’t stick. Screenshot the settings page and ping whoever handles Karta for you, or open an issue here.
