Tucked into the Ohara hills of Kyoto’s Sakyo Ward, a short walk from Jakko-in and about 0.9 miles (1.5 km) from Sanzen-in. Kyoto Station is roughly an hour’s drive, making this a countryside base for temple hopping.

A cozy Japanese-style minshuku/ryokan with 23 air-conditioned rooms and shared bathrooms. Expect open-air onsen baths with countryside views and a strong local vibe — the property has been making its original miso paste for over 100 years.

Soak in hot springs and the public bath, stroll the garden, browse the gift shop, or grab coffee at the on-site café (Kumoi-Chaya). House specialty is original miso-based hot pot made with vegetables from the property’s garden and local meat — their miso is additive-free and made on-site. A coffee shop/café (and a café across the street) serve snacks and drinks, and special-diet menus are available on request.
